Description
The Anyfish Anywhere 6 and Bait MK2 13ft is a rod that, despite its name suggesting it’s purely a heavy-duty tool, has a justifiable reputation as a fantastic all-round beach rod for the UK angler. While it can certainly handle the toughest conditions, its design and performance make it surprisingly versatile, a quality that has made it a favorite among a wide range of anglers.
At its core, the rod is built to be a reliable workhorse for general fishing. The “6 and Bait” refers to its optimum casting weight—a 6oz lead and a decent-sized bait—a payload that is common for targeting a variety of species on most UK coastlines. It’s not just for a specific situation; it’s designed to be the one rod you can grab for almost any trip, from a leisurely day on a clean beach to a challenging session on a rocky headland.
The rod’s all-round nature comes from its carefully considered action and build. It’s built on a slim and powerful carbon blank with a parabolic action. This means the rod has a progressive curve that allows it to load smoothly and easily. Unlike a super-stiff rod that requires a powerful, technical cast, the 6 and Bait MK2 is forgiving and user-friendly. An angler can achieve impressive distance with a simple overhead thump, making it an excellent choice for those who are not expert casters. This ease of use is a key part of its all-round appeal.
Furthermore, its versatility extends to the ground you can fish over. While it has the backbone to haul fish from rough ground, its tip is also responsive enough to provide good bite detection for a wide variety of species. It’s a rod that can be used to target powerful cod off the northeast coast with a big crab bait just as effectively as it can be used to fish for whiting and dabs with a multi-hook clipped rig from a clean sandy beach. This adaptability saves the angler from needing multiple, specialised rods.
The rod’s traditional two-piece equal section design is another element of its all-round appeal. It provides a clean and continuous power curve that many anglers prefer, while still being relatively easy to transport and store compared to a one-piece rod. It is also supplied with an adjustable sliding reel seat, a feature that caters to both fixed spool and multiplier reel users and allows for a customized and comfortable setup, regardless of the angler’s preferred style.
In essence, the Anyfish Anywhere 6 and Bait MK2 is the quintessential all-round beach rod. It’s not a one-trick pony designed for a niche market; it’s a dependable, versatile, and powerful rod that does exactly what it says on the tin. It offers a perfect balance of casting performance, fish-fighting power, and a user-friendly action that makes it a trusted companion for a huge variety of shore fishing pursuits.
