In a recent chat with James Betts a fantastic local angler about his new Personal Best SpurDog caught on a distant beach with the new Zulcron rods. We put a few questions together about it.
What rods and reels were you using?
Well as it was turning out to be a quiet session, so it gave me chance to Try out the Zulcron Sports GT14 and XT Lite which Sam Truan kindly let me borrow. I’m that impressed I will definitely be getting a pair of the GT14s.
What was the events leading up to the landing of the fish?
Well after an hour or so casting the GT14, I thought let’s stick a bait out on it, My XT435 GT’s were already out with bait, so 3 Zulcron rods out now. Whilst baiting up the next rig ready for a bait change, the ratchets screaming off, FISH ON!
I guess it was an exciting fight with such a heavy take?
It absolutely stormed off, a really good run and then seemed to head directly back to me, so after what felt like an age of winding in the slack I finally caught up with it and the GT14 came into its own.
So after you’d landed the fish, what was it and how heavy?
A Spurdog. Weighing in 15lb 10oz. But again it was another PB for me, and over the moon to say the least, a real buzz to my fishing career.
The rig used, had you built the rig to target them and what components had you used?
No, the rig was a pennel dropper rig with Sakuma manta and sakuma octopus hooks. Sakuma hooks, are by for the most reliable and best hooks out there.
So it was a record fish all round then?
Absolutely, Not only was it a PB for me but also a NEW, West Bay Sea Angling Club shore record, a record that stood for 54 Years.
As you know, we’ll pop this on our website, is there anything you’d like us to add for you? Maybe a shoutout to Zulcron.
Massive thank you to Zulcron on all the support, cheers guys it is greatly appreciated.
